New film fest announced for Auckland

Auckland is getting yet another film festival to add to its already busy international movie calendar.

The inaugural Spanish Film Festival will be screening at the Rialto Newmarket from May 18-26 with films from Spain, Chile and Venezuela on the line-up.

The festival programme includes Biutiful, director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's Oscar-nominated drama starring Spanish star Javier Bardem as Uxbal, a man struggling with his role as a father and his life in the dangerous underworld of modern Barcelona.
