Marlohe spent years struggling to make it as a movie actress.
The brunette constantly lost out on roles in her home country.
"All the French agents told me, 'No, you don't look like a French actress, this will not work'," she explained.
"Even people who saw me in acting workshops and wanted to introduce me to people; when those people considered my picture, they said, 'No, she will never work in France'.
"I don't know what to say. I was not in the mould."
However, Bond movie bosses quickly realised she would be perfect for the latest instalment of the 007 franchise.
Berenice had no idea what to expect when she landed the role of Severine.
"I kept hearing it all the time - Bond girl, Bond girl, Bond girl - and I thought, 'Oh my God, what do people expect'?
"Do they just expect someone who is pretty? What do they want me to do'?''
