Neighbourly campaign for Block couple

A free five-night holiday in the Gold Coast is among a flood of donations to a couple who failed to make a profit on the home they renovated for reality TV series The Block.

Engaged Wellington couple Rachel Rasch, 35, and Tyson Hill, 36, sold their formerly dilapidated Takapuna do-up for $798,000 in the final of the TV3 series last night.

They did not make a profit, despite being audience favourites throughout the show.

TV host Brooke Howard-Smith took pity on the couple last night, sending out several messages on social media about a bank account he had set up for their benefit.

One tweet was shared more than 220 times.

Flight Centre this morning told TV3 it was giving the couple a free five-night holiday in the Gold Coast.

Howard-Smith said New Zealanders should donate to the couple to help make them make the $50 profit their young son Otis said would make him proud.

"I have an empty bank account for donations for Tyson & Rachel. Watch the good people of NZ get that little guy his $50," Howard-Smith said.

Brother-and-sister team Ben Crawford, 31, and Libby, 29, won the show by selling their home for $961,000 - $157,000 above the reserve price set.

Auckland couple Lisa and Stewart Hampton bought the home and are set to convert it into an office.

As well as bragging rights, the Crawfords won the profit made on the property and an $80,000 cash prize.

Ben Crawford said he was feeling "a bit out of body" following the win.

"Financially it's bloody good. It's been such a crazy journey over the past 10 weeks. To win is the ultimate award."

The siblings revealed they had resigned from their jobs last week - Libby as a senior designer at a Christchurch advertising agency, and Ben as the marketing manager for youth at Tourism New Zealand - to start their own graphic design, marketing and branding business, because people had identified with the brand they had built up during the show.

It will be called Libby and Ben.
