Heaps of things make me happy but I think one of the things that makes me happiest is running. I love it because you can do it absolutely anywhere. It's very portable; you can do it all over the world. All you need is a pair of shoes - and
if you're on the beach or the grass you don't even need that.
Running makes me feel mentally very clear. With filming Go Girls this year, we'd have a makeup call about 6am but I'd wake up at 4.30am to go for a run. On the mornings I went for a run I'd feel a lot happier and a lot more alert. It makes me feel that I'm ready for the day. I don't like to be injured - I don't feel nearly as happy when I'm not running as when I am.
I discovered running when I was 10. My cousin and I would get home and do our homework and other stuff and go for a run along Cheltenham Beach and back. At the time it seemed massive but now when I look back it was a tiny wee run, especially after doing long-distance runs.
I've been lucky enough to run in heaps of amazing places. Recently I went to Queenstown and ran down the Franklin Arm. It's so, so beautiful, all around the waterfront. Running through the Portobello Markets in London was beautiful because it was snowing and it was really quite gorgeous. Doing the Auckland Marathon with my friend was really fun, and I'd like to do the Kepler Challenge.
I've signed up to do the Los Angeles Marathon, but I might not be able to do it because I might be filming a movie in Melbourne. I enjoy running through the canyons in LA, too. In LA, a lot of times you're auditioning for five different characters over a week. Running is a nice opportunity to get grounded, and just say: "Yes, this is who I am."
