The first trailer for a giant shark film shot in New Zealand has landed - and it's a big one.
The Meg, which was shot in and around Auckland with superstars including Jason Statham, Li Bingbing, Ruby Rose, Cliff Curtis and Rainn Wilson, features a giant shark called a Megalodonon the loose.
The first full-length trailer shows just how big The Meg really is - and exactly what it's up to. The film is directed by Jon Turteltaub.
During a set visit, Statham admitted he didn't get into one-on-one combat with the shark. "There are no fisticuffs with a megalodon," he quipped.
But his character still has a heroic role to play.
"I haven't done a movie without brandishing a gun or jumping in a car or hitting someone around the head for a long, long time. It requires a physicality for sure ... it's a really great, heroic role."
Fans appear to be enjoying the trailer, mostly thanks to Jason Statham.
just saw The Meg trailer and never thought a movie with a megaloden shark and Jason Statham would make me so very excited. Oh and the shot with the girl and the shark 😨😨😨 Can’t wait to see it 🦈🦈🦈🦈🦈 pic.twitter.com/h9GtPgHHCC
The Meg looks like good ol' stupid fun. A dumb giant shark being hunted by Jason Statham and a ragtag crew? That's 90s cheese built for Chinese audiences I want to see again.
