"Then I saw everybody standing up, the judges stood up and it was just one of the craziest moments of my life," he told the Herald.
To make the performance even more surreal, Simon Cowell pressed his Golden Buzzer, meaning he would skip through to the finals of the show.
"When Simon pressed the button, it just didn't feel real; it just felt like I was watching it through somebody else."
While Scott ended up coming sixth, his sister Jade also auditioned but didn't make it through and was instead on the receiving end of some classic harsh criticism from Cowell.
"She went before me and she sort of got a little bit shut down by Simon and she was told that she was a bedroom singer and all this kind of stuff so I just felt so sick before going on. She was really, really nervous backstage. I have four years on her so I maybe held my nerves a little bit more than she did."
Scott said it was thanks to the help of his sister that he even got into singing.
"My sister was out one day and she's always been the singer in the family. She had some music equipment in the house, and I thought, 'Well, she's out, everybody's out of the house, I'm just going to sing my heart and soul out into this microphone.' Little did I know she was in the house and behind the door and heard me and from that point she took it upon herself to enter me into a local karaoke competition.
"So basically I was forced into it ... but it was the best thing she ever did for me."
So what does Robyn think of think of Scott's interpretation of her song? He's not quite sure.
"I don't know whether she likes it. She's really busy but I would love to have that conversation with her. She must have an idea that somebody's covered it. The cheques must be coming in by now," he says.
"I would love to thank her. She's written a song, and one thing I've learned in the time I've been songwriting is that you write to try and connect with people and you want to connect with as many people as possible and she related to me in a way with that song. So I wanted to try and push that further by doing another rendition of it ... I would love to thank her - she's changed my life."
He's now working on his debut album and his own music.
"I've got tonnes of stuff coming up. I'm working with all these incredible artists; I've got a lot of stuff coming up in America... I hear the songs are doing really well in Australia and it's been playlisted in New Zealand so that's incredible news because it's an area of the world I've never been to. I would love to visit and come and chat to everybody there.
"I'm so incredibly happy with everything that's going on - I'm just trying to take it all in really. Sometimes I have to take a step back and look at where I've come and look at how things are moving because everything happened so quickly that sometimes you need some to go 'Wow look at what's happening and look at what I'm achieving' and I feel very privileged and the support is incredible."
Scott said his life has dramatically since the show but was proud of chasing his dream.
"The best thing I've ever done is follow my dream. I was working in an office nine-to-five for eight years and in the background I had this bubbling desire to take what I love to do from a weekend and from evenings when I got in from work to that bigger platform.
"If you genuinely love what you do, I think if you work hard enough that hunger keeps the dream alive and will eventually make it happen. I'm a strong believer in it."
