Lorde unprepared for VMAs

Last minute wardrobe and styling choices are underway in Lorde's hotel room this morning as the 17-year-old singer prepares for today's MTV Video Music Awards in Los Angeles.

The Royals singer admitted last night she hadn't made any hair, make up or wardrobe decisions last night, after she got sidetracked in the studio.

just remembered the vmas are tomorrow and i haven't picked an outfit or thought about hair and makeup a ha ha spontaneity

The 17-year-old went on to say she had a good excuse, as she was hard at work adding new elements to her live show.

The two-time Grammy winner will face off against some of the industry's biggest stars, competing against Beyonce and Katy Perry for Best Female Video.

Also nominated for Best Rock Video, Lorde has previously called herself the 'black sheep' of her categories.

The Kiwi singer will also present an award at today's ceremony, which begins at midday NZ time.
