Rolling Stone called it "stunningly drab," and The Observer claimed the album's only ambition was to "empty the nearest wallet".
"The Chainsmokers have one song, and if you don't want to hear 12 versions of it, please do not un-click the latch holding this box closed," wrote Spin.
The Herald agreed, with reviewer Chris Schulz writing: "Listening to this is like flipping through an empty photo album - a blank and entirely pointless exercise."

But the album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard top 200, and it has yeilded a series of popular singles, including Something Just Like This, Paris and Honest.
The band was vilified after giving an interview to Billboard in which they described themselves as "frat bro dudes" and they only made music to meet women.
Tickets to their Auckland show, including those for a dressing room meet-and-greet and soundcheck experience with the band, go on sale on August 4.
Pre-sales begin on July 31.
