Pharrell Williams has helped kickstart the career of a music student after her song made him well with tears.

Pharrell was left stunned while holding a master class at New York University earlier this year, where students shared their songs with the artist-in-residence to get feedback and advice, according to Slate.

However, after listening to Maggie Roger's track Alaska, all the Happy hitmaker could say was, "Wow".

Pharrell then went on to compare her work to Wu-Tang Clan and Steve Wonder.

"I have zero notes for that and I'll tell you why. You're doing your own thing. It's singular," he said to the budding musician.

"I've never heard anyone like you before, and I've never heard anything that sounds like that," he added. "That's a drug for me."

Pharrell also posted about Rogers on Twitter, writing: "Maggie Rogers, you have a unique gift, and I can't wait to watch you soar."

Rogers, a student at university's Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music, explained that her musical background was as a banjo player creating folk music, but after studying abroad her life changed when she had a "spiritual experience" with dance music in France.

Rogers has released the mixed and mastered version of Alaska for the world to hear.
