Lindsay Lohan feels 'punished' because she's a celebrity

Fresh from her swift five-hour stint in jail last Friday before posting bail, walking tabloid Lindsay Lohan is reportedly in an indignant flap over her latest four month sentence.

The Mean Girls star, who has been accused of stealing a necklace from a Los Angeles jewellery store, was sentenced last week to 120 days behind bars for violating probation, stemming from a 2007 DUI case.

Lohan was released from jail after five hours after she posted US$75,000 (NZ$94,000) bail. She is appealing the sentence, but legal experts say she has a very slim chance of winning.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Stephanie Sautner also sentenced Lohan to almost 500 hours of community service, including 360 hours of service at the Downtown Women's Center located in LA's Skid Row.

She was also handed a rather grim assignment - she's going to be seeing dead people.

The sometimes actress will be working 120 hours at the LA County morgue as part of her punishment.

The starlet will be "picking up trash, emptying trash bins, mopping floors and cleaning windows and restrooms at the facility," reports People.

An assistant at the facility said: "She'll be doing basic janitorial work. She won't be handling any dead bodies, but she'll certainly see them."

This won't be Lohan's first visit to the morgue. She completed community service hours at the same facility after her DUI conviction in 2007.

"Her duties include cleaning and maintenance, but she would not clean the actual crypts where the bodies are stored," a source tells Radar Online.

"Her day will begin at around 8am and she will be given one hour off for lunch before finishing her day at 4pm. Generally, there are no problems with people that do community service at the morgue as long as they keep their heads down and just get on with their duties."

The jail-sprung star, despite being warned she would be thrown in the slammer if she violated her probation, was apparently "blindsided" by the judge's ruling on Friday, and was under the impression she'd be leaving the court without a sentence.

Sources revealed to TMZ that Lohan described the ruling as being "f****d up" and "ridiculous."

Her movie producer pal, Nathan Folks, also piped up about her sentence.

"She is fine," he told People. "Obviously, she is upset about [being sentenced to four months in jail]."

"She is angry because she has been working so hard on turning her life around," he added. "She didn't do what they said she did. She didn't steal that necklace."

Folks also claims Lohan is ready to face the music when her trial begins on June 3.

"She is ready to do her time. She wants to go to A.A. and N.A. and to serve her [more than] 400 hours [of community service]," Folks added. "She has already been doing lots of charity work."

Lohan is also playing the celebrity card. She reportedly thinks she's being unfairly punished for her fame.

"She is being treated differently from everyone else because she is famous," one of her pals told PopEater.

"We were all in shock when she was forced to return to jail, just to make an example out of her. It's not right. Especially when she is working so hard to live a healthy life."

The source adds: "She is innocent and can't understand what is going on.

"She didn't steal any necklace and will be found innocent. It's obvious this is only happening because she is famous and anyone that thinks celebrities get away with stuff or let off will think again after seeing this."

But Dan Abrams, ABC News legal analyst and founder of Mediaite.com, tells the website that Lohan isn't getting a raw deal because of her celebrity.

"I know it's hard for some to believe, but Lindsay Lohan is basically being treated the same way any DUI, probation violating, accused small-time thief would be treated by the LA judicial system."
