Larry Hagman dies, aged 81

American actor Larry Hagman, best known for his role as J.R Ewing on the hit show Dallas, has died aged 81.

It is reported that Hagman died at Medical City Dallas Hospital in Dallas, Texas from complications from throat cancer. His family released a statement saying: "He was surrounded by loved ones when he passed. It was a peaceful passing, just as he had wished for."

Hagman was also known for his role as Major Anthony "Tony" Nelson in the 1960s sitcom I Dream of Jeannie.

He is survived by his wife Maj and children Heidi Kristina and Preston.
