Fans of Kylie Minogue are fuming over a new Barbie doll created in her honour, saying it bears absolutely no resemblance to the musical superstar.
The doll was released as part of Mattel’s latest Barbie Role Models series, which the company says aims to “introduce girls to remarkable women’s storiesto show them you can be anything”.
However, many fans took to the internet to express their dissatisfaction, saying the designers missed the mark.
“She doesn’t look like Kylie. So disappointed,” an Instagram user wrote.
One Reddit user commented, “This sculpt is a choice …💔"
Several fans said the figurine, which sells for more than $100, looked more like Britney Spears, Faith Hill or the American drag queen Katya.
“No offence to the creators/modellers but ... they’ve given her a somewhat belly pooch and thicker calves?” one fan wrote.
One Instagram user wrote the red outfit “doesn’t wow me, and without any variation in tone or texture, the whole doll ends up feeling pretty flat and boring😞“.
Mattel acknowledged the Aussie icon’s “glittering” career in a biography on its online store.
“In so many ways she stands alone in the pop arena – a superstar artist whose constant reinventions and explorations keep her firmly rooted in the present whilst defining and celebrating much of our collective past.”

The Barbie Role Model series was launched in conjunction with the 2018 International Women’s Day in response to mothers who felt their daughters did not have positive female role models to look up to.
New Zealand entrepreneur Brianne West is listed as a former role model for creating her zero-waste beauty company Ethique.
Actors Helen Mirren and Viola Davis, and singer Shania Twain are listed as recent role models with their own custom dolls.
