Kurt Russell has no idea what Guardians of the Galaxy is about, despite receiving an offer to portray Chris Pratt's father in a planned sequel.
The Hollywood veteran confirms he has been approached by writer/director James Gunn to join the cast of the follow-up, but he will have a littlehomework to do over the holidays before deciding whether or not to sign on.
"I literally got a phone call two days ago about this," he tells the Wall Street Journal.
"I've never seen Guardians of The Galaxy so I don't know anything about it. Many times I've heard, 'That's a really fun movie, a really good movie with great characters."'
"So, I didn't realise that James Gunn had written and directed it, but we talked to each other on the phone. And I just had to be honest and say, 'Thank you for considering me, I have to read the script, and I have to watch the first movie because I can't bring anything for you right now. I've got nothing to offer here.'
"So, I'm amazed to get asked about this because everybody knows more about it than I do. It's a little weird. It could be a one line thing for all I know, but yeah. We're talking about it, there's just nothing to talk about at the moment."
Russell is said to be Gunn's first choice to tackle the role as the mysterious dad of Pratt's movie hero Peter Quill, who loses his mother as a child.
Gunn is returning to direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which is due to begin production early next year, ahead of a May, 2017 release.
Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper and David Bautista are all expected to reprise their roles for the franchise, which is based on the Marvel comics of the same name.
