LONDON - The Kings of Leon were crowned number one in the UK album charts today with their new release Because Of The Times.
The bluesy rock band from Tennessee took top spot after holding off another new entry, Our Earthly Pleasures, from indie band Maximo Park, theOfficial UK Charts Company said.
Last week's number one Beautiful World by reformed boy band Take That dropped to third with Everytime We Touch by German dance trio Cascada in fourth.
Soaring into fifth was the The Best Of album by Scottish twins the Proclaimers, hot on the heels of their recent success in the singles chart.
The re-working of their 1980s classic I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles), featuring comedians Peter Kay and Matt Lucas, stayed at number one for the third week running.
There was little movement elsewhere at the tops of the chart, with Canadian rocker Avril Lavigne staying in second place with Girlfriend and US singer Gwen Stefani unmoved in third with The Sweet Escape.
US band The Fray moved up a place to fourth with How To Save A Life swapping places with dance track Destination Calabria by Alex Gaudino featuring Crystal Waters.
The highest new entry in sixth was Stop Me by Mark Ronson featuring D Merriweather which covers Stop Me If You've Heard This One Before by legendary band The Smiths.
Other new entries in the top ten were Give It To Me by hip-hop producer Timbaland featuring Nelly Furtado which debuted in eighth and Beautiful Liar, a collaboration by stars Beyonce and Shakira.
