Nicole Kidman is in shock after the sudden death of her father, who reportedly suffered a heart attack at an exclusive Singapore country club.
Dr Antony Kidman, aged 75 and director of the Health Psychology Unit at Sydney's Royal North Shore Hospital, died during a visit to Singapore to see his youngest daughter, Antonia, son-in-law banker Craig Marran and six grandchildren. "Nicole and her family are in shock by the sudden death of her father," said Kidman's publicist and friend, Leslee Dart.
There are mixed reports about how Dr Kidman died. Some reports say he died from a fall. Singapore's Strait Times newspaper, however, reported he died after suffering an apparent heart attack around breakfast time at The Tanglin Club.
When paramedics arrived, members of the public were already performing CPR on a man in the restaurant, the spokesman said.
Nicole's husband, country music star Keith Urban, cancelled a charity concert in the US on news of Dr Kidman's death and flew by private plane to his grieving wife at their home in Nashville, Tennessee.
They were last night en route to Sydney to meet Nicole's mother, Janelle, Antonia and other family.
"It is with great sadness that we learn of Dr Tony Kidman's sudden passing," University of Technology vice-chancellor Professor Attila Brungs said.
"During his 43 years at the University of Technology, Sydney, Tony has contributed greatly."
