He's been laying low following his hospitalisation.

And new reports suggest Kanye West is using his downtime to further expand the $20million (NZ$28.1million) pound Hidden Hills mansion he bought with Kim Kardashian in 2014.

The pair have been renovating the extravagant property for the past two years, amid suggestions it cause the tension building up to his breakdown, Daily Mail reports.

And according to TMZ the rapper has been working closely with his contractor over the last week, to turn the property into a mini "Versailles".

His latest project was reportedly knocking a wall in the master bedroom to make the space "bigger than the average NYC apartment".

He is also said to be using the time to work on new music in his studio at their current Bel Air home.

Meanwhile last month it was reported Kanye and Kim's tension over their extravagant home renovations could be part of the reason for the rapper's breakdown, according to new claims.

TMZ reported that the pair have sunk almost $10million (NZ$14million) into their $20million (NZ$28.1million) Californian estate, after Kanye kept changing his mind about how he wanted the property organised and structured.

The website claimed that this chaos resulted in "emotional turmoil" between the pair - perhaps acting as one of the factors leading to the rapper's breakdown last week.

Putting even more strain on their relationship, it was also reported that Kim had been left disgruntled by the bill as the one funding the entire remodel process.

A source told the site that the reality star had been complaining she had to spend so much on the home improvements, during a taping of Khloe Kardashian's talk show Kocktails with Khloe back in April.

The insider adds that the pair have not yet spent the night in the pad which they bought two years ago, whilst the big-scale revamp, which saw them take over the land of the £2.9million (NZ$5.13 million) lot next door, takes place.

Blond Kanye West's second public outing after 'psychotic' episode

The news came after claims emerged that his post-breakdown condition was much worse than first thought.

Although he was initially reported to be suffering from a temporary psychosis brought on by sleep deprivation and extreme dehydration, TMZ suggest that the rapper's problems went much 'deeper'.

The 39-year-old was rushed to UCLA Medical Center after a reported breakdown.

The website reported that Kanye was in such a 'bad mental state' that his insurance policy for his 21 cancelled U.S. concerts is likely to cover him for lost profits due to illness.

The rapper remained in hospital over Thanksgiving.

He was then released to return to wife Kim, despite rumours swirling that she was making plans for a divorce.

It was claimed last week that the 36-year-old has not been happy with their marriage, said UsWeekly, and she wants to divorce him when the time is right. She is also allegedly trying to "build a case for full custody of the kids North and Saint."

The site also stands by its earlier claim that West is not living with Kardashian inside their Bel-Air mansion. Citing multiple sources, they report the Yeezy star has been residing in an LA-area rental as an outpatient. (A source previously denied this to DailyMail.com.)

UsWeekly claimed Kim definitely "wants a divorce" and she knows for sure she "doesn't want to stay married to him."

But the timing is terrible. So the Selfish author will have to 'take some time before she can do anything.'

"She cares about Kanye and feels relieved he is getting the help he needs," a source said. "But she's felt trapped for a while."

However, Kim's BFF Jonathan Cheban insisted that the couple were "laughing" at the claims they are set to split.

While attending the DailyMail.com party last week, the CBB star said: "I didn't hear any rumours today, 'cause I've been busy today, but it's - I mean, I just literally got off the phone with them."
