Kanye West shocks Ellen DeGeneres with six-minute rant

Kanye West left the audience of the Ellen DeGeneres' show scratching their heads after he went on a full blown, six-minute rant.

After being quizzed by DeGeneres on kids and whether he regretted any of his tweets, the host asked West to give one example of his "ideas".

Like a triggered bomb, the rapper - who is known for his incoherent rambling - exploded into a full blown monologue.

"Picasso is dead. Steve Jobs is dead. Walt Disney is dead. Name somebody living that you can name in the same breath as them," he said.

"We're one race, the human race, one civilisation. We're a blip in the existence of the universe, and we're constantly trying to pull each other down.

"Not doing things to help each other. That's my point. It's like I'm shaking talking about it," the rapper said, clearly agitated.

West spoke about his parents and the role they played in society in "making a difference" - adding he too feels he can "make things better" through his artistic skill set.

"Everything that I sonically make is a painting. I see it. I see the importance. I see the importance and the value of everyone being able to experience a more beautiful life."

He said while his passion for fashion is often taken less seriously than actor Leonardo DiCaprio's spiel on climate change or President Barack Obama's conservation efforts, he wants to use the industry "to take away bullying".

"I want to take all this information that I've learned from sitting at all these fashion shows and knocking on all these doors and buying all these expensive clothes and I want to take away bullying," he said.

By the end of the six-minute rant, DeGeneres, who managed to impart only one or two words throughout the entire segment, took to a television ad seemingly to allow the audience time to recover.

"Well, it's not daytime television anymore," DeGeneres said.

"We are going to take a break."
