Kanye West has been given "free rein" to do what he wants at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs).
The Stronger rapper is due to appear at the ceremony on Monday (NZ time) and show producers, who are expecting "something big", have reportedly allocated him a four-minute performance slot.
However, sources told TMZ he has been told he can do what he wants, whether that is rap, sing, dance or even just stay silent - and he has so far not revealed what he has in store for the audience at New York's Madison Square Garden.
It had been speculated he will perform with Taylor Swift, ending their feud which was reignited earlier this year when he referenced her as "that b***h" in his song Famous, but sources close to the Shake It Off singer - who has slammed claims from Kanye's wife Kim Kardashian West that she approved the song - insisted she has no plans to attend.
At last year's ceremony, Kanye picked up the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award and gave an 11-minute long speech which he ended with a shock announcement that he has decided to run for president in 2020.
Amidst the mayhem Kanye's no doubt planning on bringing to the show, Kiwi choreographer Parris Goebel will be at the awards as the video she made for Justin Bieber's hit Sorry has been nominated for two awards.
The video, featuring Goebel and her dance crew dancing against a white background, is up for video of the year and best pop video against the likes of Adele, Beyonce and Kanye.
She is also up for the Breakthrough Longform Video award, for her work on Bieber's album Purpose. On a project called Purpose: The Movement, Goebel worked with dancers around the world to create 13 dance videos for each song on Bieber's album.
When it was announced, Goebel took to Instagram to say how "crazy" the nominations were.
"What a beautiful reminder to myself that anything is possible. Don't give up on your dreams, if this Polynesian high school drop out from Auckland NZ can do it...you can do it too," she wrote.
As far as performances go, pop princess Britney Spears is due to take to the VMA stage for the first time in a decade, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj will perform together and Beyonce is reportedly in talks to take the stage to perform a medley of hits.
MTV has also revealed that Kim Kardashian West, Sean 'Diddy' Combs, Alicia Keys, Fifth Harmony, Jaden Smith, Shameik Moore and Tove Lo will present at the awards, and hip hop star Rihanna is set to receive the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.
The VMAs will be on MTV (Sky Channel 15) from noon on Monday, August 29.
