It led to an explosion of comments online.
Higgins had said on the Women Tell All TV special following the Bachelor NZ finale that she would like to have a whiskey with Mauger sometime.
Meanwhile, unlucky-in-love Verhoeven wasn't letting the events of the past week get her down, sharing a snap to her own Instagram page, with drink in hand, wishing her fans "a good Saturday night".
And it looks like it was a big weekend for the other Bachelor NZ finalist, Naz Khanjani, who spent another Saturday night partying at Ponsonby's Longroom.
Mauger, Verhoeven and Khanjani all dominated headlines last week as the fallout from the TV3 show unfolded.
The week concluded with Verhoeven issuing a statement defending Mauger, saying she felt "physically ill" over threats made to the Bachelor and his family.
"Can we for one moment step back and think, maybe the way Jordan has been portrayed over the last few days isn't completely accurate. Maybe what we see and hear isn't always 100 per cent true?!" she said.
"During the weeks after the show both Jordan and I noticed a change between the two of us and although I hoped that this was part of the process and something we could work through, Jordan told me in a very respectful way that he believed it was fair to go our separate ways because I deserved someone who could give himself to me 100 per cent."
