JK Rowling confirms that 'Harambe is not a Patronus'

JK Rowling has taken to Twitter to inform keen readers that they cannot have Harambe as a Patronus.

On Thursday, Harry Potter website Pottermore allowed fans to find out what their Patronus - a mystical animal caused by a spell which echoes your personality - is.

Some were unhappy, expecting to get a magnificent stag and ending up with a shrew.

Others were hoping their Patronus would be a gorilla, like Harambe, the animal Cincinnati Zoo killed after a child fell into his cage.

A joke website mocked up an announcement saying "your Patronus is Harambe".

Clearly having caught up on all the Harambe memes, JK Rowling retweeted it.

However, she was then told to tweet a clarification.

She wrote: "I've been asked to make it clear that Harambe is not a Patronus you can actually get on @pottermore. The previous RT is a joke. As you were."

The author then said she found the joke "very funny".

In the novels, Harry Potter's Patronus is not Harambe, but a stag.

It reflects the story of his father, who could turn into a deer at will as an Animagus.

Pottermore CEO Susan L. Jurevics said in a statement: "We are so delighted to be bringing J.K. Rowling's most famous spell magically to life on Pottermore, for everyone to enjoy and discover their authentic Patronus, for free.

"It's been fantastic working with J.K. Rowling and our creative and development teams to realise her vision, using the latest technology to create this little piece of magic for our site."
