Hollywood actor Jennifer Garner says the hardest part of her split with Ben Affleck was losing a "true partnership and friendship".
Hollywood actor Jennifer Garner has shed light on the demise of her 13-year marriage to Ben Affleck, describing the separation as “hard”.
The 13 Going On 30 star made the rare comments in a new interview for Marie Claire UK‘s Wellness issue this week.
“You have to be smart aboutwhat you can and can’t handle, and I could not handle what was out there,” Garner said.
“But what was out there, was not what was hard... the actual breaking up of a family is what was hard. Losing a true partnership and friendship is what was hard.”
Garner and Affleck, both 53, married in a private Caribbean ceremony in 2005, five years after meeting on the set of Pearl Harbour.
“That’s where your resilience is, it’s in your relationships and in the people who carry you through.
“It’s important for women to know, when they think, ‘Oh, I’ll never see that, I’ll never have that feeling, I’ll never be friends with this person again’, [that] time is the opportunity to heal.”
According to People, the former couple remain close and are active co-parents to their three children, daughters Violet, 20, and Seraphina, 17, and son Samuel, 13.
She described co-parenting while in the public eye as “the hardest thing”.
“Not hard in the grand scheme of what is hard in the world, but tricky for me and tricky for my family,” she said.

She said her children had always been her priority over her career.
“It never felt like a sacrifice. It was really hard to go to work and it definitely shaped the jobs I chose, in a big way,” she said.
News.com.au reported Garner supported Affleck after his 2024 divorce from Jennifer Lopez, with the pair seen spending time together with their children, including over Thanksgiving.
Garner is now in a five-year relationship with businessman John Miller, the chief executive of the tech company CaliGroup.
