Californian rock band Jefferson Starship have joined the already impressive line up for the A Summer's Day Live concert series, playing alongside rock legends Toto and Dragon in Tauranga.
Jefferson Starship, whose hits include We Built This City, Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now and Sara to name a few,descended from Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductees and 2016 Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award recipients Jefferson Airplane, releasing eight gold and platinum albums and 20 hit singles between 1974 and 1984.
Headlined by Toto, the concert series will take in some of the most picturesque locations and popular concert venues across New Zealand with the three big hitters playing on the grass field of Mount Maunganui's ASB Baypark on January 9, with punters allowed to bring their own small picnic chairs.
They will then head to Church Road in Napier on January 10, TSB Bowl of Brooklands in New Plymouth on January 11 and Hagley Park in Christchurch on January 13.
Pato Alvarez from Neptune Entertainment says the A Summer's Day Live series was already on the way to being a sellout with Toto and Dragon, so expects remaining tickets to be snapped up quickly.
"Now we can assure [people it] is going to be a sell out concert in Tauranga," Alvarez says.
"We are super excited with the response to all our summer shows."
Jefferson Starship has sold out concerts worldwide and remains dedicated to breathing new life into the living catalogue of the Jeffersonian legacy, with other hits including Volunteers, White Rabbit, Wooden Ships, Somebody to Love, Today, Miracles, Count on Me, Fast Buck Freddie, Jane and Find Your Way Back.
It's fitting that Jefferson Starship should join the bill alongside other renowned US hit makers, Toto, who are behind some of the most iconic songs in history.
Loved for hits such as Rosanna, Africa and Hold The Line, Toto has released 17 studio albums, and sold more than 40 million records worldwide since forming in the 1970s.
Meanwhile, representing homegrown talent is Kiwi rockers Dragon, whose hits include April Sun in Cuba, Are You Old Enough, Rain and Still In Love With You, and remain one of New Zealand's most popular live acts.
They were inducted into the New Zealand Hall of Fame in 2011 and with Todd Hunter and Mark Williams at the helm, they have continued to delight Kiwi crowds wherever they play.
There is also VIP ticketing in all cities except New Plymouth. But instead there is reserved seating at the Bowl of Brooklands.
