"We really want to talk about that now?"
Despite the frosty reception, Kelly threw out another compliment in a bid to keep up the line of questioning, telling the star people always talk about how "amazing" she looks.
"Good attitude, good posture, I take care of myself. But let me tell you why I love this movie that we did, Our Souls at Night, rather than plastic surgery," Fonda hit back.
It was a far cry from her response to similar questions put to her by The Guardian in 2015, to which she replied: "I wish I were brave enough to not do plastic surgery, but I think I bought myself a decade."
It's been a bad week for Kelly, with the cringeworthy exchange coming just one day after Debra Messing said that she "regretted" going on her show.
The actress had appeared alongside her Will & Grace co-stars to promote the show's revival, during which the host controversially joked with a fan: "Isn't it true that you became a lawyer, and you became gay, because of Will?"
Messing made her revelation on Instagram, responding to a commentator who asked her why they'd gone on the program at all.
"Honestly I didn't know it was MK [Megyn Kelly] until that morning," she replied. "The itinerary just said Today show appearance. Regret going on. Dismayed by her comments."
