16:57: The big winner of the night is The Social Network, named best motion picture, drama, in the final award.

16:55:
Michael Douglas is presenting the final award of the evening. He gets a standing ovation. And points out "There's gotta be an easier way to get a standing ovation." He's been battling cancer.

16:50: Colin Firth is funny. I don't know what he's talking about, but he's funny.

16:49: Yay! Colin Firth wins for The King's Speech. Bless.

16:47: Ricky Gervais is on fire... claiming Sandra Bullock said to him backstage "poor people are gross and they smell bad". She's presenting the award for best actor in a motion picture, drama.

16:41: A big cheer goes out for the winner, The Kids Are All Right.

16:40: Tom Hanks and Tim Allen are presenting the award for best motion picture, comedy or musical.

16:37: Natalie says hi to her grandma in Cincinatti. Aw. And thanks her French choreographer baby daddy (and fiance) Benjamin Millepied.

16:36 Jeff Bridges is presenting best actress in a motion picture, drama. The Golden Globe goes to... the very lovely (and pregnant) Natalie Portman for Black Swan.

16:34: Joseph Gordon Levitt introduces the movie he starred in, Inception.

16:26: Halle Berry presents the best actor in a motion picture comedy award to Paul Giamatti for Barney's Version. "Jesus Christ Halle Berry!" he says, before admitting he's "a little jacked up" after eating five boxes of free Godiva chocolates.

16:25: Alicia Keys introduces the "haunting and brilliant psychological thriller" Black Swan.

16:20: And the winner is, surprise surprise, Glee.

16:19: Jimmy Fallon and January Jones are presenting best TV series, musical or comedy.

16:16: Annette Bening's presenting best director, motion picture. And the winner is... David Fincher, The Social Network.

16:14: Megan Fox gets a few hollers from the crowd. She's introducing The Tourist.

16:08: De Niro says his movies are like his children, but his children are more expensive and you can't remake them in 3D...

16:04: A montage of De Niro's work... Godfather II, Taxi Driver, Goodfellas, Raging Bull, This Boy's Life, Cape Fear... Yeah, I guess he's quite good.

16:00: Matt Damon is presenting the Cecil B. DeMille award to Robert De Niro.

15:52: Jeremy Irons presents Melissa Leo with the best supporting actress in a motion picture gong for The Fighter.

15:49: Globe for best actor in a TV series, comedy or musical goes to Jim Parsons from the Big Bang Theory, whose award is presented to him by co-star Kaley Cuoco.

15:48: It's Jane Fonda! Her face has not a single wrinkle and it's a little disconcerting... Her dress is quite nice though. She's introducing Burlesque.

15:42: Best actress in a comedy/musical TV series goes to Laura Linney of The Big C.

15:40: Yay, it's Helen Mirren! Looking lovely, as always. She's introducing The King's Speech, one of the big favourites with seven nominations.

15:37: Ricky Gervais introduces the presenters for the best foreign language film award - "the category no one in America cares about!". Ha. Winner is In a Better World from Denmark.

15:31: Best supporting actress in a TV series, miniseries or TV movie goes to... Jane Lynch of Glee.

15:27: Steve Carrell and Tina Fey are presenting best screenplay in a motion picture... and the Golden Globe goes to Aaron Sorkin for The Social Network.

15:19: And best actress in a miniseries or TV movie goes to Claire Danes for Temple Grandin.

15:15: Al Pacino wins best actor in a miniseries for You Don't Know Jack.

15:07: Annette thanks co-star Julianne, her husband Warren Beatty, etc etc. Awww.

15:03: Anyway, he's presenting the award for best actress in a comedy or musical. Lots of big names in this bunch - Julianne Moore, Angelina, Annette Bening... and the Golden Globe goes to - Annette Bening for The Kids Are Alright.

15:02: "I don't know if an actress can have done her best work until she's slept with me," says Downey, whose face is looking a little too tanned for my liking...

15:01: Ricky Gervais gets in the obligatory Robert Downey Jr jailbird dig... which Downey takes in good humour, of course.

14:59 And the Golden Globe goes to... Toy Story 3. Little Biebs looks very excited.

14:57: It's Justin Bieber! And some other tween. Presenting the award for best animated feature film.

14:51: The winner of best original score in a motion picture is... Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross for The Social Network.

14:48: Jennifer Lopez and Alec Baldwin are presenting best original song in a motion picture... and the Golden Globe goes to: You Haven't Seen the Last of Me from Burlesque.

14:40 Gritty prohibition-era show Boardwalk Empire has won best TV series, drama.

14:37: Steve Buscemi has won best actor in a TV series, drama for Boardwalk Empire.

14:25: Best supporting actor in a series/mini-series/television movie goes to Chris Colfer of Glee.

14:24: Carlos has won for best miniseries or TV movies.

14:21: Katey Sagal has won best actress in a TV drama series for Sons of Anarchy.

14:10: Christian Bale, looking a little like Jesus with long hair and shaggy beard, has won best supporting actor in a drama for his role in The Fighter.

14:02: And that concludes the red carpet... Stay tuned for awards updates.

13:55: Too-much-plastic-surgery-face Megan Fox is wearing pink. Mad Men's January Jones is showing FAR too much skin.

13:50: Newly single Scar Jo (Scarlett Johansson) looks hot. As per. Her dress is demure and peach and lacey.

13:47: Christina Aguilera is talking about her son... and she wants to focus on her music...

13:46: J Lo's promoting her new single. Zzzz.

13:45: Anne Hathaway is in a long-sleeved backless sequinned Armani dress. Ryan thinks the sequins look like CDs. Thanks Ryan.

13:42: J Lo and Marc Anthony have arrived. She looks a tad tacky in sparkly white sequins and a tight ponytail.

13:38: 30 Rock's Tina Fey is elegant in black L'Wren Scott with a plunging neckline. Halle Berry's also in a saucy black number.

13:36: Christina Aguilera, star of Burlesque, is in a sheer-ish black lace number. Claire Danes is standing out in hot pink.

13:33: Sandra Bullock is also going for the one-shoulder look in a pink sparkly frock, accessorised with a new blunt fringe.

13:31:Black Swan star Mila Kunis is talking to Ryan Seacrest. She looks very nice in a one-shoulder forest green dress. Green is popping up all over the show - do we sense a theme? Man Men's Elisabeth Moss is also sporting the hue.

13:28: Brangelina's arrived! She's in a long-sleeved green sparkly number and he's got creepy slicked back hair.

13:23: Catherine Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas have arrived. He tells Ryan Seacrest he's doing much better since battling cancer. Oh, and Justin Bieber's arrived.

13:04pm: Jake Gyllenhaal is talking to E!'s Ryan Seacrest and looking very snappy, as usual.

12.55pm: Precious star Gabourey Sibide is wearing a purple leopard print creation. Perez Hilton reckons "it's not exactly the most flattering or attractive dress unless you're on a Hawaiian vacation, but she looks happy and that's all the matters!"

12.53pm: Jennifer Love Hewitt, who is nominated for her role as a prostitute in The Client List, is wearing a pretty but unexciting pale blue Romona Keveza gown.

12.49pm: The stars have begun arriving on the red carpet at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Reality TV star Kelly Osbourne is looking very glamorous in a black one-shoulder Zac Posen gown.
