Iconic game Spyro the Dragon to be remade for PS4

Classic PlayStation 1 game Spyro the Dragon is set to be remastered for release on PlayStation 4, according to a gaming news site.

The iconic fire-breathing dragon is set for release later this year after the success of the Crash Bandicoot Trilogy remake in 2017.

Unnamed sources told gaming news outlet Kotaku the remastered Spyro game will include improved visuals, new assets, a remastered soundtrack and other enhancements.

It is understood the game will include three old titles - Spyro the Dragon, Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage and Spyro: Year of the Dragon.

The report from Kotaku claims the game would be officially announced in March before being released in September.

Spyro the Dragon Trilogy Remastered is under development by Vicarious Visions, the same studio who handled Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy.

Vicarious Visions released Spyro for Nintendos 3DS Gameboy in 2011.

Spyro the Dragon was launched around the same time as Crash, in the late 1990s as Sony launched its first PlayStation in 1994.

It is understood the game's publisher, Activision, has signed a temporary exclusivity deal with PlayStation, but an Xbox release of Spyro may come at a later date.
