She's never yelled at any of her exes. And contrary to popular belief, Taylor Swift says she's no boy-chaser.

Simmer down in the peanut gallery.

"I'm sure if I looked up the latest Google Alerts rumour it would say I'm chasing somebody who doesn't like me as much as I like him - people love that angle on me," says Swift, 23, who graces the March cover of Elle magazine.

Swift continues, "They're like, 'Oh Taylor, coming on too strong again, chasing boys. I never chase boys. They don't like it!"

And if things don't work out and a relationship hits the skids, the Grammy winner, who recently pulled the plug on her romance with One Direction's Harry Styles, insists she's never - ever - lost her cool when it comes to an ex.

"I don't think I've ever yelled at an ex-boyfriend. Ever. I'm not a yeller. I'm not a fit thrower," Swift reveals. "If something is done, it's done."

Swift, who counts Jake Gyllenhaal, Taylor Lautner, John Mayer, Joe Jonas and Conor Kennedy among her former flames, is no stranger to speculation that many of her chart-topping tracks are inspired by a bevy of breakups.

The singer tells the mag that she writes music about her failed relationships because it's therapeutic.

"To me, it's just writing songs the way I always have. It's me sitting on my bed feeling pain I didn't understand, writing a song, and understanding it better," Swift says.

"If people want to dissect the lyrics, that's their right, but it's all coming from the exact same place as where I started. It's just something I do to feel better."

Swift's Grammy swipe at Styles

Watch out, Harry!

'I DIDN'T FIT IN ... '

The singer, who was recently snapped lensing her new music video in Malibu, also opens up about her insecurity.

"Middle school was what programmed me be to be semi-insecure, like, all of the time," she says. "I didn't fit in ... I'd stand on the outside of the circle but I was never really in. That's when I started to realise there's this thing called rejection."

Swift set tongues wagging earlier this week when she appeared to take a swipe at Styles during her opening number at Sunday's 55th annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles.

"So he calls me up and he's like, 'I still love you,'" Swift said in a British accent while performing We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together. "And I'm like, 'I'm sorry, I'm busy opening up the Grammys!' And we're never getting back together, like, ever."

Check out video of her performance below:

(And seeing as you've made it this far, you might as well have a butchers at the flurry of twinkly GIFs dedicated to Swift as she tripped the light fandango at the awards.)

The Red singer and the boy-bander split at the beginning of January after a holiday getaway to the British Virgin Islands went South.

"They had a fight," a source told Us Weekly of the split, adding that Styles "said something he shouldn't have. This [breakup] is definitely going to be for good."

"They are both really busy and never in one place for long. Harry's really upset about the split and is really sensitive about it," a source dished to tabloid magazine Life & Style.

"His friends told him to be careful and that it was never going to last, and he feels a little foolish now that it's fallen apart so quickly."

Another report claimed that Swift believed Styles may have cheated on her.

"She thought he was cheating on her when they were apart over the holidays so she ended it, telling him she couldn't be in a relationship with someone like that," a source dished to Radar Online.

"Harry protested that he never did anything wrong, and that's why Taylor is trying right now to give him the benefit of the doubt and trying to work things out with him."

The source continued, "His reputation precedes him and it's hard to believe Taylor will ever be able to fully trust Harry because the ladies just throw themselves at him and he does nothing to temper that."

Swift recently let it be known that she is working on new music.

"Back in the studio," Swift tweeted on January 13, followed by a nudge nudge, wink wink reference to her rep for writing autobiographical love songs: "Uh oh..."

Reports have also suggested that Swift has supposedly already written five songs about Styles.

"Taylor writes music in the same way that other women chat to their friends on the phone," a 'source' dished to British tabloid The Sun last month.

"It's been how she deals with her emotions for most of her life.

"Harry and Taylor only dated for a short time but there were very strong feelings, so it's been a tough comedown."

The source added: "Lyrics have been written, but Taylor hasn't come close to deciding whether she'll ever release them. A song about it will surface at some point but it won't be anything like the way she had a dig at her other ex John Mayer in one of her other tracks."

Not that Styles could give two hoots if he does provide excellent musical fodder.

The former lovebirds are both set to perform at next week's Brit Awards.

That won't be awkward at all...
