Mike Hosking has revealed how he managed his bloodthirsty rise to the top of New Zealand media landscape with a lengthy Game of Thrones metaphor.
Well, the puppet version of him has.
The funny men behind the Like Mike parody series have unveiled their latest episode of Like Mike on streaming site WatchMe, voiced by Radio Hauraki's Jeremy Wells.
In it, the puppet version of Hosking says he found many similarities between a recent Game of Thrones bingewatch and his New Zealand media profile.
"Tyrion Lannister, the plucky dwarf whose mouth gets him into trouble, reminds me a lot of my Newstalk ZB and current affairs predecessor Paul Holmes," he says.
He goes on to compare Paul Holmes to the "follically challenged" Lord Varys, and John Campbell to Sansa Stark because, "both play the victim, have a social conscience and were forced to leave their land against their will".
Puppet Hosking denies he is comparable to tyrannical leader King Joffrey, comparing himself instead to Daenerys Targaryen, the Mother of Dragons.
"Unlike Kings Landing, with just one throne sitting in the great hall of the Red Keep, I rule from two thrones: one at Newstalk ZB on Graham St, and the other one up the road, at TVNZ," he says.
The clip ends with puppet Hosking flying away on a dragon.
