An extended version of The Hobbit: There and Back Again will contain 13 extra minutes of footage and up to nine hours of bonus content, it has been confirmed.
IGN.com reported the extended edition of the first film in Jackson's Hobbit trilogy would arrive in stores just weeksbefore the second film, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug would be in theatres.
It's due for release on October 22, with Smaug set to be released on December 13.
The five-disc extended edition will contain a longer cut of the movie by 13 minutes, a commentary by Peter Jackson and Philippa Boyens as well as new featurettes made exclusively for the release.
"I'm thrilled that the extended edition will give fans the opportunity to experience certain key scenes in the film as they were originally shot, as well as an abundance of special features," Jackson said.
"It's exciting to present this expanded and enriched version of An Unexpected Journey to allow fans to fully immerse themselves in the movie, before seeing the second part of the trilogy."
