Of course, we couldn't sit down with the cast of Game of Thrones without asking that question: Is Jon Snow really dead?

As season five ended with the brutal stabbing of the popular character, it seemed a pretty open-and-shut case. But as reports surfaced of actor Kit Harington appearing near the set of the hit show in a remote part of Ireland, the rumour-mill kicked into gear.

Adding to the mystery - or perhaps just to amuse themselves - each of the cast members we spoke to gave a slightly different answer.

The most bizarre came from Dean-Charles Chapman (Tommen Baratheon), who simply replied "Jackie Chan" when asked about the character's fate.

Hannah Murray (Gilly) had the most philosophical response, comparing the audience's reaction to real-life grief.

"We've had denial for a very long time. Now we need some anger and acceptance."

Meanwhile, John Bradley (Samwell Tarly) chose to view the death from his character's point of view: "I don't know what Sam would feel if he knew. Well I do, he wouldn't be chuffed about it.

"There would be grief but there's a masochistic side of Sam, where he doesn't let himself off the hook and he would think 'oh my God, if I was there, I maybe could have said something or done something to have stopped it'."

Maisie Williams (Arya Stark) has her own theory on why people can't let go.

"When you lose someone who people are putting their money on ... and then he gets stabbed five times in the chest, they go 'well, yeah, but that can't happen. He can't be dead'. Which is sweet. But honestly, people are just making it harder on themselves."

Jon Snow died at the end of season five, but many fans are hopefuly he'll be back in season six of Game of Thrones.
Jon Snow died at the end of season five, but many fans are hopefuly he'll be back in season six of Game of Thrones.

Carice van Houten (Melisandre) says she's felt the most pressure regarding Snow's death as fans speculate her character will somehow bring him back to life.

"I don't know why there's all this pressure on my character to bring him back, I've never brought anyone back. I was really surprised that everyone was jumping on me. People are going to find out that he's really dead and people are going to be so upset."

      So he really is dead?

      "He is really dead."

But the most forthright and definitive answer came from Liam Cunningham (Davos Seaworth), who said in his thick, Irish brogue: "He's f***ing dead."

HBO today backed this up, releasing a synopsis for the first episode of the show's sixth season. It read: "Jon Snow is dead. Daenerys meets a strong man. Cersei sees her daughter again."
