made the announcement via their management company today.

The pair got hitched during a lavish pink Cinderella-style wedding complete with horse drawn carriages at Highclere Castle in Hampshire, England, in 2005. They have two children together, son

"Peter Andre and Katie Price are separating after four-and-a-half years of marriage.

"They have both requested that the media respect their families' privacy at this difficult time," a statement from their management said.

Rumours have been rife for months that their marriage was on the rocks. And the announcement comes a day after British tabloid

The Sun

published snaps and a video of Price out on the razz - without her husband Andre.

Price, 30, and Andre, 36, have always vigorously denied that their marriage was in trouble, and had attempted to dispel the rumours by recently talking about plans to add to their brood of children.

"I always fall pregnant so quick, so I can guarantee that I will have another baby or be pregnant by the end of the year," Price said during an interview last month.

Bickering

Despite the pesky reports, the tabloid darlings also put on a faux united front as they took part in the London marathon together in April. Here they are during a press conference for the event. Love's young dream? Look closer and you'll see the cracks in the facade begin to surface as they bicker for England...

Other reports claim Price has frequently been spotted without her wedding ring of late, prompting speculation that all was not as it seems in the love nest.

"I wouldn't [leave him]. It would only be if he cheated on me"

And in an interview with OK! magazine in October, Price said that infidelity would be the only thing that could break her and Andre apart.

"I wouldn't [leave him]. It would only be if he cheated on me. I think that's the same for both of us - there's nothing else that would make us break up - only if one of us was unfaithful."

Andre had a similar stance on what would cause a potential rift between them."I would only ever leave her if she cheated on me or started doing drugs.

"If I saw Katie holding hands with another bloke I'd go ballistic. I'm a hot-blooded Greek," he recently said.

It's no secret that Andre has often revealed that he struggled with his wife's hedonistic lifestyle and larger-than-life alter ego, Jordan.

"I trust her when she's sober, but I don't trust her when she's drinking.

"It makes our relationship vulnerable. From the moment she starts drinking I lose her and I won't get her back until the next morning," he revealed in his autobiography.

Pre-nup

Word has it that the two wisely signed a pre-nuptial agreement (reportedly on Peter's insistance) before they tied the knot.

"Whatever happens, I can't take half of what she's got. I don't want anything from her apart from her love," the singer said at the time.

Surprised by the split? Not a lot. We saw this one coming a mile off.

Married life for the tan-friendly, tangerine pair can't have been easy. Dubbed as a fairytale love affair, the two fell for each other on I'm a Celebrity... and tried in vain to silence the naysayers who predicted their romance would falter as soon as the TV credits rolled.

Give them their dues; the pair had a persistent, if somewhat fame-fawning, willingness to share the finer intricacies of their personal life and let it all hang, as it were. Their warts and all approach had a certain novelty value, but that beguiling diversion was ultimately thwarted by never quite winning over their critics and falling victim to whatever ultimately sabotaged their union.
