Gaga to play Winehouse? Not true, dad says

Amy Winehouse's father has scotched rumours that the late singer's life story will be turned into a biopic.

Recent reports claimed that Winehouse's former boyfriend, filmmaker Reg Traviss, had been in talks to produce a biopic about the singer, who died in July at age 27.

"I guess a biopic is inevitable," he was quoted as telling The Mirror.

"I have been asked but I honestly don't think I could do it. I'd be too close to it.

"But whoever does write and direct the film may ­exaggerate certain points to make it more 'Hollywood'," he told the newspaper.

"The family would want to be involved to make sure that it's done justice. But right now it's all too raw."

The tabloid also claimed this week that Mitch had "given the green light" for Lady Gaga to play the late singer on the big screen.

"We were invited to Tony Bennett's birthday party and we sat on a table with Lady Gaga's mum and dad. They are just normal folk and very lovely people," he reportedly told the tab.

"I have heard that Lady Gaga is keen to play Amy in a film.

"I don't know what her English accent is like but it's not just an English accent she would have to perfect - it's an English-Cockney-Jewish accent so she better start practicing now," he said. "But she would be great."

Perhaps she would. If any of it were actually true.

Mitch insists a biopic of his daughter's troubled life won't be happening anytime soon - not if he has anything to do with it.

"It would hardly be a biopic without the music," said Mitch, who owns the copyright of Winehouse's music, "and we'd never allow the songs to be released."

He also took to Twitter to slam the Gaga rumours.

"I never said Lady Gaga will play Amy in film," he wrote, while dismissing another report that he'd turned the late singer's home into a shrine.

"Also Amy's room not a shrine. Wot a load of rubbish," he concluded.

But Mitch does have some Winehouse-related plans in the pipeline. He's signed a deal with HarperCollins to write a memoir about the Back To Black singer. All proceeds from the book sales will go to The Amy Winehouse Foundation to help children in need.
