From Harry Potter to this? Emma Watson's terrifying new role

Emma Watson has gone from feisty Hogwarts student Hermione Granger to satanic cult victim in her new movie Regression.

Watson plays Angela Gray in the American-Spanish thriller directed and written by Alejandro Amenabar, set in Minnesota 1990.

Detective Bruce Kenner, played by Ethan Hawke, investigates when Gray accuses her father of sexually abusing her.

"They'll kill me," a terrified Gray tells Kenner in the trailer for the movie released on Thursday.

"Nobody is going to hurt you anymore," he replies.

Gray goes on to recall: "I heard a knock at the door, there is an old lady, she had this weird smile on her face.

"She took me downstairs, they were wearing robes, it was a black mass.

"Now they will kill you too," she tells Kenner.

Regression is slated for an August release in US cinemas.
