Former Spice Girl Mel B's shock overdose confession

Former Spice Girl Mel B has opened up about trying to take her own life in new details to be published in her yet-to-be-released memoir.

A copy of the manuscript — seen by US showbiz site RadarOnline — claims the singer, 43, had a secret cocaine addition and overdosed on pills twice, once when she was a teenager and a second time in 2014, when she was 39.

The explosive claims are set to be included in her upcoming memoir, Brutally Honest, radaronline.com reports.

The site says Mel B, whose real name is Melanie Brown, took a near-fatal amount pills in 2014 while she was still married to Stephen Belafonte, and had to be rushed to hospital.

The manuscript reportedly says that Mel B looked in the mirror as she swallowed each pill, according to RadarOnline.

She returned to the set of Britain's X Factor "days after" she tried to take her own life, according to the manuscript of Brutally Honest.

Scary Spice did not reveal the details around her first suicide attempt though, which she writes happened when she was 14 years old.

Mel B recently finalised her divorce from Belafonte, though the former couple is still fighting over custody of their daughter, Madison, who is seven.

Mel B was ordered to pay Belafonte's $A470,000 legal fees after the bitter court battle, which saw abuse allegations against him dropped.

A Los Angeles judge ruled that Mel has to pay the producer half the sum within 30 days and the other half when their $10.5 million mansion is sold, according to The Sun.

The America's Got Talent judge was also ordered to pay Belafonte $A6600-a-month in child support on top of the monthly $15,000 spousal support he gets.

"I went through a long year-and-a-half, two years of almost being asked to give up the rights to my daughter, financial things. And you know what? I stuck with it," Belafonte said after the divorce was settled.

"There was nothing but lies told about me … That means, that guess what? It's settled, done."
