Winterbottom's new film draws heavily on the real life case of Meredith Kercher, a 21-year-old exchange student from the University of Leeds who was murdered while studying in Perugia in 2007.
Kercher's body was found in the bedroom of the ground floor flat she shared with American Amanda Knox and her Italian boyfriend Rafaelle Solecito at Via della Pergola 7.

Knox, Solecito and friend Rudy Guede were arrested for the murder, with Guese later sentenced to 30-years imprisonment for sexual assault and murder.
