Fans have hijacked the trailer for Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey", focusing on Anne Hathaway's cameo.
The new trailer for Christopher Nolan’s epic blockbuster, an adaptation of the Homer classic The Odyssey, has been brutally hijacked by fans.
Less than 24 hours after it was released, fans couldn’t help but notice the same thing in the latest teaser – and it had everything to do withAnne Hathaway’s second-long cameo.
Hathaway takes on the role of Penelope, Queen of Ithaca – the wife of the legendary Greek hero Odysseus (played by Matt Damon).
While it’s a classic role primed for awards season, fans have zeroed in on one glaring distraction: The 43-year-old star’s unusually stiff facial expressions during what appears to be a deeply emotional scene.
“Fascinating how her eyebrows and forehead just don’t move,” one fan pointed out on
“They had Botox in Ancient Greece?” someone further questioned.

“I didn’t know they already had Botox back then, cool,” another observed.
And the fact-checkers kept coming.
“I knew the Ancient Greeks had invented the medicine, the philosophy and theatre, among other stuff, but I had no idea that they also had invented Botox. Wow,” someone mocked.
“Okay, Greeks wore masks to act but not like that.”
Meanwhile, other fans did their best to turn the conversation around.
“Can we just stop discussing actress’s faces in this way. There are far more male stars who’ve had work done yet not a word is ever said,” someone wrote in another X thread.
Plenty also agreed that despite how much movement was coming from her face, Hathaway was superb casting.
“Anne Hathaway as Penelope? That’s pure elegance. The queen of Ithaca has arrived,” one person applauded.
“Anne Hathaway as Penelope looks absolutely epic already! Nolan’s Odyssey is gonna be legendary,” another agreed.
Fans were treated to a first look of the blockbuster back in December last year.
Anne takes on the role of Penelope in the classic tale.
It was the first time we saw glimpses of the star-studded supporting cast to Damon’s Odysseus and Hathaway’s Penelope – including Zendaya (Greek goddess Athena), Tom Holland (Odysseus’ son Telemachus), Lupita Nyong’o (Helen of Troy), Robert Pattinson (Antinous) and Charlize Theron (Calypso).
Based on the legendary tale, Odysseus finds himself shipwrecked with his army and fighting to make his way home after the Trojan War.
His journey spans land and sea and into mysterious caves, where he comes face-to-face with mythical creatures including the Cyclops Polyphemus, the Sirens and Circe.
The Odyssey hits cinemas July 17.
