It's been two years in the making but it's finally here. Foo Fighters eighth studio album Sonic Highways will be released on Monday - but you can listen to it right here, right now, for free.

The album is the band's most ambitious to date, according to frontman Dave Grohl, who spoke to TimeOut last month.

Grohl told TimeOut: "I was like, 'Am I just going to stroll into the studio and make another Foo Fighters album so we can hit the arenas and sell T-shirts?'

"No, we're going to do something different, something we haven't done before, and challenge the band."

That mission saw the band head across America, recording eight songs in eight different cities, including Austin, Chicago, Los Angeles, Nashville, New Orleans, New York, Seattle and Washington, DC.

The band are now preparing for another epic world tour, which will see them hit Auckland and Christchurch next year, playing two stadium shows.

Last time the Foos were here, Kiwi fans made the ground shake so hard it registered as a seismic event. Now, Grohl says, they're "going to do it again".

The band will perform at Christchurch's AMI Stadium on February 18, ahead of an Auckland show at Mt Smart Stadium on Saturday, February 21.

Tickets for the shows go on sale at midday, November 13, through Ticketek and Ticketmaster.
