3:10pm It's a wrap. The show's over, folks. I'm off for some caffeine. I'll post a full list of the winners soon...

3:05pm Mad Men wins the Best Drama Series gong.

2:50pm Red carpet gossip: Tongues are wagging about Eva Longoria's choice of dress this year. The Desperate Housewives siren hit the red rag with hubby Tony Parker wearing a dress that could hide a multitude of secrets...including a baby bump. Just saying.

Tina Fey wins Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, for her role in 30 Rock. She's elated. Just don't mention Sarah Palin.

2:43 Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series goes to Bryan Cranston, Breaking Bad.

2:30pm Alec Baldwin wins in the Lead Actor in a Comedy Series category for 30 Rock. He thanks Tina Fey in his acceptance speech.

The fabulous Glenn Close wins an award for her role in Damages. She beat off stiff competition from Sally Field and Holly Hunter in the Lead Actress in a Drama Series category.

Sideways star Paul Giamatti wins in the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or Movie category. It's yet another prize for John Adams.

2:20pm Top show Mad Men wins in the Writing for a Drama Series category.

2:00pm Veteran actress Sally Field presents the gong for Outstanding Miniseries. Congrats go to...John Adams. Tom Hanks accepts the award and shuffles off the stage.

Best reality competition programme gong goes to...The Amazing Race.

1:54pm Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or Movie. And the Emmy Award goes to...Tom Wilkinson for John Adams.

Outstanding Writing For A Miniseries, Movie Or A Dramatic Special Emmy. And the Emmy Award goes to...to Kirk Ellis for John Adams.

1:50pm Red carpet gossip: A security breach happened at a checkpoint close to the Nokia Theatre at 3:30pm (local time).

Authorities say three people who were planning on attending the ceremony were taken in by cops for questioning. Sources say an aerosol rifle was found in their car. A snitch tells E! News, "A car got past a checkpoint, and it had to be checked by the bomb squad."

1:40pm: Christina Applegate and Christian Slater are up next. They're handing out the gong for Outstanding Made For Television Movie. And the Emmy Award goes to...Recount.

1:28pm Best variety, music or comedy series...The Daily Show With Jon Stewart

Next up is the gong for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series. And the Emmy Award goes to...Tina Fey for 30 Rock.

1:20pm Quotables: "I think [Steve] Carell's had his day. I made him what he is. He was nothing before he met me, and how does he repay me? Pretty well, actually. I get half his wages until he's 65." - Ricky Gervais talks to E! about his thoughts on helping launch The office actor Steve Carell's career.

1:14pm Nominee Alec Baldwin presents Outstanding Lead Actress In A Miniseries Or A Movie. The gong goes to...Laura Linney, for her role in John Adams. This is Linney's third Emmy win.

1:10pm Red carpet gossip: Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria is apparently going to be involved in a controversial storyline in the show's new season. I'm sensing a plot involving a weight issue...

Earlier on, there was a bomb scare outside the Nokia Theatre, which meant that a slew of celebs were quickly ushered out of their limos. No other details at present.

1:00pm Comedian Steve Martin takes to the stage. He gets a standing ovation from the audience.

Red carpet gossip: Cynthia Nixon gave an interview to E! on the red carpet and revealed that a sequel to Sex and the City is looking very likely. Sarah Jessica Parker and Michael Partick King are apparently in conversation as we speak.

12:57pm Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series: Dianne Wiest, In Treatment

12:53pm Jennifer Love Hewitt and Hayden Panettiere are presenting Outstanding Writing For A Variety, Music Or Comedy Programme...and the gong goes to...The Colbert Report.

12:50pm Co-host Heidi Klum has had her tuxedo removed by Emmy Award hosts Tom Bergeron and William Shatner. She's wearing sparkly hotpants. Noice.

12:44pm The Office star Ricky Gervais is onstage and dishing out speech tips. He presents the Emmy for Outstanding Directing For A Variety, Music Or Comedy Programme to...Louis J. Horvitz for directing the Academy Awards.

12:40pm Best supporting actor in a drama series goes to Zeljko Ivanek, for his role in Damage.

12:36pm Samantha Who? star Jean Smart lands a Best supporting actress in a comedy series gong.

12:21pm And the first award goes to...Actor Jeremy Piven has nabbed an award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for his role in Entourage. This is Piven's third consequtive win.

12:00pm It's showtime!

Some overzealous celebs have already started stopming the red carpet at this year's Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles.

Co-host Heidi Klum has turned up in her finery - including a pair of earrings so mammoth, they're probably her way of communicating with E.T.

Hold the phone! The talent have apparently all been herded into the Kodak theatre for the ceremoney. Stay tuned...
