On Friday, his wife, Ashley Fleetwood, shared on Facebook that the creators of the series Disney and Lucasfilm had visited their home and granted her husband his wish.
"Daniel just finished watching an unedited version of Star Wars: The Force Awakens," she wrote.
"We would like to thank the awesomely talented JJ Abrams for calling us yesterday to tell us Daniel was getting his wish granted ... I want to thank ALL the amazing people who helped make this happen, thank you beyond words.
"May the force be with you all."
A number of Star Wars stars showed their support for Fleetwood's campaign including Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hamill.
"I just read this and am elated for Daniel & his family! Thanks to the powers-that-be for making his dream come true."
Star Wars: The Force Awakens is released in New Zealand cinemas on December 18.
