Drake reveals father Dennis Graham has cancer on new album Iceman

Drake has revealed his father’s cancer battle in the lyrics of his new song.

The 39-year-old rapper dropped tune Make Them Cry, from his new Iceman album, on Friday – as well as two other records titled Maid of Honour and Habibti.

He used the song to tell fans dad Dennis Graham, 71, is battling cancer, although didn’t go into further details about the exact disease he is struggling with.

He sings in the song: “My dad got cancer right now, we battlin’ stages. Trust me when I say there’s plenty things I’d rather be facing (For real)/And this time, ask me to dig deeper, I’ll gladly explain it.”

Drake, real name Aubrey Graham, also spoke about his parents – including mum Sandi – later on in the tune.

He continued: “I know for sure that my parents, they look at me and see an overcomer/I’m looking back at them and these days, I see an older couple.”

His dad isn’t the only one struggling, as Drake also said he’s finding it difficult to come to terms with his advancing age.

He continued: “I’m ‘bout to turn 40, dog, I’m battlin’ ageing.

“I’m battlin’ the fact that the album ain’t even drop and already they a**** complainin’/F*** it, I’ll battle the label/F*** it, I’ll battle the majors.

“I’ll battle the stations ‘til my a** is back in rotation/Shout out to the real fans that knew what I had in the basement/Shout out to the fake fans, I thought we had an arrangement.”

Drake is undoubtedly hoping for further musical success with his new records.

In a previous interview with Variety back in 2019, dad Dennis – also a successful singer – spoke about how he has been influenced by stars such as Otis Redding, and has shared them with his son.

He explained: “Yeah, he knows everything I know. He knows all the music that I came up with, he had to listen to.

“We used to take 18-hour drives down to Memphis every summer, we would take turns listening to his music and my music.

“He turned me on to rap music and I turned him on to my music. We switched off in the car.”
