Brown, a keen fisherman who wrote his first book Go Fish on fish recipes and stories from the New Zealand coast, was fishing with his brother Jeremy Coombes off Kawau Island about 8am yesterdaywhena group of dolphins started chasing their boat.
"They were jumping all around the boat chasing bait fish," he said.
"I had my finger on my phone ready to go on the first jump. I probably shot about 10 photos where you blast your phone all at once, and there was one good one there. That was pretty cool."
The brothers set out about 6.30am yesterday, on what was only their third trip in a new 5.75-metre Surtees Centre Console.
"We caught a few snapper," Brown said.
Brown owns the Depot and Federal Delicatessen, both in Auckland's Federal St, and Best Ugly Bagels at the City Works Depot and Newmarket. He has written four books and presented several TV shows including Get Fresh with Al Brown, Coasters and Dishing Up Australia.
