As part of Auckland's Triennial Turbulence shows, the Academy Cinema is screening some interesting documentaries this weekend, opening with French film-maker Chantal Akerman's From the Other Side (Sat, 10am), a study of attitudes to Mexican migration on both sides of the US border. That is followed at midday
by Australian George Gittoes' highly regarded Soundtrack to War, about the American invasion of Iraq and the music that keeps the troops going. The film also screens on Sunday at midday.
Also on Sunday, at 2pm, two short films: Muxima, by Alfredo Jaars, is structured around six versions of the Angolan song Muxima, or "heart". Landmines have left one in every 330 people in the west African nation of Angola an amputee. Laura Waddington's Border documents attempts by refugees from France's Sangatte camp to escape to England through the Channel Tunnel.
