David Farrier's tickling documentary will debut at Sundance

David Farrier is behind the local documentary about competitive tickling competitions.

A documentary about tickling made by TV3 journalist David Farrier will debut at the Sundance Film Festival in January.

Called Tickled, the Kickstarter-funded doco follows Farrier as he travels to the US to uncover the people behind the secretive world of tickling.

"Sundance is the dream festival for this film," Farrier said in a statement.

"Sundance is the dream festival for this film - I've watched so many great Sundance films as a journalist and can't believe we're taking Tickled there.

"Out of the all the stories I've done it is by far the biggest - and definitely the strangest," he says.

Farrier raised $25,000 for the doco through Kickstarter, and it was reported in May he was facing legal threats over the film.

Taika Waititi's Hunt for the Wilderpeople will also debut at Sundance.
