Ghostbusters star Dan Aykroyd has defended the upcoming movie remake, calling the new film "brilliant" and insisting it is funnier than the original.
The funnyman starred in the 1984 sci-fi comedy and its subsequent 1989 sequel, but ever since news of an all-female version of the beloved film surfaced, fanshave been quick to criticise the reboot.
And, after the trailer for the new movie was released earlier this year pulled in more than 648,000 dislikes on YouTube, making it the only movie trailer to make it onto the list of the popular site's Top 100 most disliked videos, according to ScreenCrush.
But Dan, who served as executive producer and makes a cameo in the remake, is encouraging fans to give the film a chance when it comes out in July, insisting the movie is even better than the first two Ghostbusters combined.
When asked by a follower on Facebook what he thinks of the new Ghostbusters, Dan replied, "As originator of the original: Saw test screening of new movie. Apart from brilliant, genuine performances from the cast both female and male, it has more laughs and more scares than the first 2 films plus Bill Murray is in it! As one of millions of man-fans and (his character) Ray Stantz, I'm paying to see that and bringing all my friends!"
In addition to Bill and Dan, other stars making a return to the franchise include Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts and Sigourney Weaver.
Bridesmaids filmmaker Paul Feig directed the remake, and reunited with Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig, who lead the cast along with Saturday Night Live regulars Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones.
