Ridley never predicted how popular the new movie would be and finds it overwhelming if she thinks about it too much.
"It's hard to fathom, so I take it in small doses," she adds. "I think, when everything's done, in 10 or 20 years, I'll be able to look at it and take everything in."
The 23-year-old hopes she won't be typecast as an action or sci-fi star and she believes her social media accounts can help show she is different to Rey. She wants variety in career, including a stint on the stage once she conquers her nerves.
"I know in my mind what I want to achieve. This is one incredible thing and is going to lead to more things - hopefully more genres," Ridley says.

"I'd love to do theatre, but I get really bad stage fright. So I'm going to have to feel like I have real skills in film before I go to another format."
Ridley recently confirmed she is in talks to take over from Angelina Jolie in a new series of Lara Croft: Tomb Raider movies.
