Daniel Craig wants to take James Bond into virgin territory - Australia.
The British actor is desperate to make a film Down Under and likes the idea of finally bringing the iconic spy to Australia.
Despite his globe-trotting exploits, the fictional MI6 agent has never travelled to the wide brown
land in the 50 years since first hitting screens in Dr No.
"I would love to shoot in Australia, that is just me," Craig told AAP. "Whether Bond goes there or not, I could not tell you but I personally would love to shoot in Australia.
"I have never worked there, I have just done press there."
Australia is not without its connections to 007 - NSW-born George Lazenby played Bond in On Her Majesty's Secret Service in 1969 while late compatriot Sidney Cotton has been cited as an inspiration for various Bond characters.
Craig looked set to make his first acting foray in Australia as the leading man in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, which is due out on January 12.
However, film bosses chose an alternative ending to Stieg Larsson's novel which had Craig's character Mikael Blomkvist travel to the Queensland outback.
Director David Fincher thought it was too far to trek for only a couple of scenes in the Swedish thriller and that the tweak to the storyline"was a good save".
"To find someone half around the other side of the world, it just seemed like a lot of shoe leather," he said.
Craig will be busy filming his third Bond film Skyfall, directed by Sam Mendes, until June next year.
Skyfall, the 23rd in the franchise, is due to be released at the end of the year after MGM's financial troubles delayed the start of production.
Spanish star Javier Bardem will play the chief villain.
