"I wanted to tell you, that after a lot of deliberation, I've made the incredibly tough decision to postpone the release of Chromatica.
"While I believe art is one of the strongest things we can have to provide joy and healing to each other during times like this, it just doesn't feel right to me to release this album with all that is going on during this global pandemic."
The Stupid Love singer says she wants to spend the time "focusing on solutions" amid the Covid-19 outbreak.
"It's important to me that the attention is on getting essential media equipment to healthcare professionals, making sure kids who depend on public schools for meals get the assistance they need, and that we help those who will be financially impacted by the pandemic.
Gaga's shows in Las Vegas from April 30-May 11 were postponed, however she says she hopes her other shows will continue.
The star also teased that she had a surprise set planned for the Coachella music festival, which was postponed until October because of coronavirus.
"To my fans, I love you. I know you are disappointed. Probably angry and sad. But I also know that as a fan base...as a family...we are strong, we are loving and we are the kindness punks.
"So I ask you to practise that kindness in these trying times."
Chromatica is Lady Gaga's sixth album, and her last one Joanne was released in 2016.
She says a new release date will be announced soon.
Sister-act Haim has also delayed the release of their album Women In Music Part II which was due for release on April 24.
The band members Danielle Haim, Este Haim, and Alana Haim say it was "the best decision given the current state of things".
