The NZ Comedy Festival is set to unleash itself upon the funnybones of Auckland and Wellington from April 29. TimeOut has rounded up a dozen or so local and international stars of this year's fest to discuss their approach to funny.

Conceptual description of show in 10 words or less: A rundown flat. Avondale. Low-fi and loving it.

Are props required? If so, what's the most important one? Shotgun.

Can we bring our mum? Yes. Let me know how she takes it.

If you do have another telly/radio/ whatever gig what can you do in your live show that you can't there? Wear a yeti suit. Swear. Over-act ... oh no, wait, sorry I already do that at Shortland Street.

How many Auckland Comedy Festival appearances is this for you? Three.

What have you learned from your past appearances? Some people will find you funny and some will hate you.

In a year like 2011, what is there to laugh about? Eminem's song Love the Way You Lie. I know it's so 2010 but it's still going strong. This bit gets me every time "Life is no Nintendo game/But you lied again/Now you get to watch her leave/Out the window/ Guess that's why they call it window pane".

Who's your favourite live comedian of all time and why? At the moment I have been watching a lot of Zach Galifianakis on the web. Genius.
