Chloe Moretz cast as The Little Mermaid in new adaptation

Actress Chloe Moretz has been keeping a new role under wraps.

The 18-year-old recently revealed that she will play The Little Mermaid in a new live-action movie.

She made the announcement to all of her fans on Twitter, saying she "can't wait" to dive into the role.

Been waiting a long time to tell you guys !! #TheLittleMermaid going to be a beautiful experience! Can't wait to show everyone my Mermaid!

The Universal production was originally to be directed by Sofia Coppola but she stepped away from the project due to creative differences.

Love, Actually's Richard Curtis is reportedly negotiating to take over.

This will not be a Disney adaptation, but a write off of the much loved fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen.

It follows a mermaid who prevents a man from drowning and falls madly in love with him.
