If only Cher could turn back time... (groan-inducing pun intended).

The pop matriarch says she feels "a little ashamed" after recently throwing some serious shade at Miley Cyrus and her now infamous twerk-filled MTV VMAs performance.

Speaking to USA Today earlier this week, while promoting her new album Closer to the Truth, the 67-year-old singer chipped in with her two cents' worth on Cyrus' sexed-up routine with Robin Thicke at the awards show last month.

"I'm not old-fashioned," she said. "She could have come out naked, and if she'd just rocked the house, I would have said, 'You go, girl.' It just wasn't done well. She can't dance, her body looked like hell, the song wasn't great, one cheek was hanging out."

She added, "And, chick, don't stick out your tongue if it's coated."

Ouch!

Cher continued the finger-wagging during a confab with E! News.

"I don't give a s**t if she comes out naked," she shared. "Just be better, do better."

She continued, "Maybe she's thrilled and delighted-everyone's talking about it. And so, that's almost as good as it being great, you know. Especially kind of in this day and age. It doesn't make any difference if you're good. It just makes a difference if people are talking about it."

And the diva won't be partaking in any twerk-outs anyitme soon.

"I don't want to," she said. "I mean, I could if I wanted to. But, you know, if it looks like that I don't think I'm interested. I've seen other girls do it better."

After Cher's remarks made the rounds online, she took to Twitter yesterday in a bid to clarify what she meant.

"Re:Miley S....I Think What I Think, but Having Said That...I'm a little ashamed (which is Total bulls**t,how can u B a LITTLE ASHAMED) that...I didn't keep my big Opinionated mouth Shut," Cher wrote.

"WTF is MY PROBLEM ! I'm 2 Old to fall prey 2'Tell us, Oh wise 1,What did YOU think of M.S ?' she continued. "What I should have said," I didn't like it that much, but she's Pushing The Envelope, being an ARTIST ! She's Talented,& DIDNT COMMIT A FELONY."

She went on, "But somehow my ego had 2 get ITS 2 CENTS IN! MY BIG ASS "BAD",I DIDNT SUPPORT A FELLOW ARTIST. TRUTHFULLY SHE WAS Fkng BRILLIANT..CAUSE...WE'RE STILL TALKING ABOUT IT.

"Ps this is Not an apology 4 what I Thought, its a Reminder, that if I don't practice my principles, I loose Them."

She later added, "I WONT MENTION THIS AGAIN! I HAVEN'T CANGED MY FKNG OPNION,BUT JUMPING ON HER WITH EVERY1,WAS CHEAP SHOT!"

Cher isn't the only one to strike out at Cyrus' VMAs performance.

"Am I into it?" chimed songbird Pink during an interview with E! News this week. "No, I think it's tacky."

The singer added, "She's really freaking talented. She's beautiful. She can sing her ass off and to go up there and do that? She's cheating herself and she's cheating the rest of us...She can do what she wants. People can like it if they want. I'm not going to buy it.

"She can do better. I've seen her do better," adding, "I twerk all the time like a mofo. There's a place for that and it's not on stage."

But it's not all bad news for Cyrus.

Former Mouse House star Britney Spears has spoken out to defend the singer's recent antics.

"I think any time you do a performance that is memorable, you're going to have criticism. I think she's doing her thing, being herself," the Vegas-bound singer said. "She's just doing her thing, so I give props to her."
