Gordon Ramsay has been slammed online after sharing what he thought to be an inspirational story - that didn’t go down so well with fans.
Ramsay has grown a massive cookery empire for himself, boasting the oh-so-coveted “multi-millionaire” label after being the mastermind behind various television shows, restaurantsand cook books.
However, Ramsay claims it wasn’t always plain sailing. In fact, he would go so far as to say that he was financially “skint” when starting out in his career.
The chef, who was a guest on the latest episode of Jake Humphrey’s High Performance podcast this week, revealed that he was once “broke” - even though he was driving a $200,000 car.
Ramsay confessed that when he first started out as a chef, he didn’t have enough money to pay for a down payment on a loan for his first flat with wife, Tana.
In a moment of desperation, he went to ask her dad for a loan.

“We were young, we were stupid, we were skint,” said the celebrity chef. Ramsay took his father-in-law out for a meal and asked him to help them out so they could buy a home.
But it didn’t quite go the way that Ramsay wanted it to. Instead, the chef was given a piece of advice that he says changed his life.
“He said ‘okay, here’s what I’ll do. I’ll have another lunch with you when you sell your Porsche,’” shared Ramsay.
“I thought, you f***er. But, you clever f***er. Here I am driving around in a flash 911, and we didn’t even have a house, a flat, a roof over our heads.
He went on: “It was the best advice he ever gave me: Sell your f***ing Porsche.”

While Ramsay appeared to find the story inspiring, particularly for those also struggling at the beginning of their careers, social media users took a different stance.
One X user slammed the chef: “Celebrities really are the most delusional people on the planet.”
Another quipped “Great advice, housing crisis solved! Just going to sell my Porsche and ask for $20,000 so I can afford a place to live!”
“This is where I’ve been going wrong all these years, not selling a Porsche!” quipped another.
Meanwhile, a fourth thought the advice was hilarious: “This is so relatable … If only I’d thought to sell my Porsche when we were trying to scrape together a deposit for our house”.
